Broken down in Germany

Getting your car home from Germany

If you break down on a German Autobahn, switch on your hazard lights and pull onto the hard shoulder (Seitenstreifen). Put on a high-visibility vest, place the warning triangle well behind the car and wait behind the crash barrier. The small arrows on the white roadside posts point to the nearest orange emergency phone (Notrufsäule); use it or call 112 for help. If the police have the car removed by a local towing firm (Abschleppdienst), it ends up in that firm's yard. We collect it from there, or from the workshop it was taken to. Typical jobs start with a breakdown on the way to a ski resort, an accident on the A3 or A40, or a car bought from a German dealer or private seller. Give us the Autobahn number, your direction and the nearest exit, or the workshop address, or share your location on WhatsApp.

Safety first

Get safe first. Then call.

Broken down on the motorway: hazard lights on, high-visibility vest on, get out on the barrier side and wait behind the crash barrier. Call 112 in an emergency, then +31 6 14 68 70 30.

  1. Hazard lights on

Switch on your hazard lights straight away and, if you still can, pull over as far right as possible: the hard shoulder or an emergency lay-by.

  2. Vest on, exit on the safe side

Put on a high-visibility vest before you get out and leave the car on the barrier side. Don't leave anyone inside.

  3. Wait behind the barrier

Everyone waits behind the crash barrier, well away from the car.

  4. Call 112 in danger

Car in a live lane, smoke or fire, or anyone hurt? Call 112. Then call or WhatsApp us on +31 6 14 68 70 30.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about towing in Germany

Straight answers. Question not listed? Call +31 6 14 68 70 30.

I bought a car in Germany that has no Dutch registration. Can you collect it?

Yes. The car rides on our flatbed, so it never has to be driven on the road. Make sure the vehicle documents travel with it; you then arrange import and registration in the Netherlands yourself through the RDW.

My car is at a German workshop after a breakdown. What do I need to arrange?

Agree with the workshop that the car can be released and settle any outstanding bill there. Send us the address and opening hours, and we collect the car and bring it to your garage in the Netherlands.

How much does it cost to bring my car from Germany to the Netherlands?

That depends on where in Germany the car is, the destination and the state of the car. You get one fixed price for the whole trip upfront; we agree it before we set off and nothing is added afterwards.

Can I call or WhatsApp you from Germany?

Yes. Call or WhatsApp +31 6 14 68 70 30, 24 hours a day, every day. On WhatsApp, ideally send your location or the address of the garage or recovery yard where the car is.

How long until my car is back in the Netherlands from Germany?

That depends on the distance and the planning. We tell you honestly when we agree the price; we never promise times we cannot keep.

Do I need a membership to have my car collected from Germany?

No. You don't need to be a member of any breakdown organisation. You get one fixed price for this trip upfront and pay only for that trip.
