Safety first

Safe first. Then call.

If you break down on the motorway: switch on your hazard lights, put on a high-visibility vest, get out on the guardrail side and wait behind the guardrail. Call 112 if you are in immediate danger, then +31 6 14 68 70 30.

  1. Hazard lights on

Switch on your hazard lights immediately and, if you still can, move as far right as possible: onto the hard shoulder or into a lay-by. Turn the wheels away from the road.

  2. Vest on, get out on the safe side

Put on a high-visibility vest before you get out. Leave the car on the guardrail side, never on the traffic side. Do not leave anyone in the car.

  3. Wait behind the guardrail

Stand with all passengers behind the guardrail, well away from the car. A stationary car on the hard shoulder is the most dangerous place to wait.

  4. Warning triangle — only where it is safe

On an ordinary road, place the warning triangle about 30 metres behind the car. Not on the motorway: walking on the hard shoulder is life-threatening, the hazard lights are enough there.

  5. Call 112 if in danger

Is the car on the carriageway, is there smoke or fire, or is anyone injured? Call 112. Smoke from under the bonnet: engine off, keep your distance and leave the bonnet closed.

  6. Call Spoed Sleepdienst

Call +31 6 14 68 70 30 or send a WhatsApp with your location — the hectometre post along the road helps. You get a fixed price and we come straight away.

Frequently asked questions

What you want to know before you call.

Honest answers. Question not listed? Call +31 6 14 68 70 30 — you get an answer straight away.

How much does it cost to have my car towed?

That depends on where you are, where the car has to go and whether it still rolls. You get a fixed price from us up front: we agree it before we leave and nothing is added afterwards. Call +31 6 14 68 70 30 or request a quote via WhatsApp.

Do I need a membership?

No. You don't need to be a member of any breakdown organisation. You call or WhatsApp, get a fixed price for this one job up front and pay only for that job.

Which regions does Spoed Sleepdienst cover?

All of the Netherlands and all of Europe, Turkey included. We collect cars in any European country — from Belgium, Germany and France to Czechia, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Turkey — and bring them back to the Netherlands or to a destination in Europe.

Are you really available 24/7?

Yes. Spoed Sleepdienst is reachable 24 hours a day, every day, on +31 6 14 68 70 30 — at night, at the weekend and on public holidays too.

How quickly do you arrive?

As fast as possible. In and around Amsterdam the average arrival time is within 30 minutes. Elsewhere we leave as soon as the price is agreed; how long the drive takes depends on your location and the traffic, and you will hear an honest estimate on the phone.

Do you also collect my car abroad?

Yes. We collect cars all over Europe and in Turkey, for example after a breakdown on holiday or after a purchase, and bring them to the Netherlands. Transport from the Netherlands to a destination in Europe is also possible.

Do you also collect a car in Turkey or Eastern Europe?

Yes. Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia and Czechia are part of our service area, as are the rest of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Give us the location and you get one fixed price up front for the whole trip to the Netherlands.

Can my car be brought from abroad to the Netherlands?

Yes. We collect your car in any country in Europe or in Turkey and take it to the garage, your home or any other destination in the Netherlands. How long that takes depends on the distance; you will hear an honest estimate when we agree the price.

What should I do if I break down on the motorway?

Switch on your hazard lights and move the car as far right as possible onto the hard shoulder. Put on a high-visibility vest, get out on the guardrail side and stand with all passengers behind the guardrail. Do not place a warning triangle on the motorway. Call 112 if you are in immediate danger, then call +31 6 14 68 70 30; we will come to you.

What information do you need?

Where the car is (address, road number or hectometre post), what happened, make and model, whether the car still rolls or is stuck, and where it has to go. With that information you get a fixed price straight away.

Can I ride along in the tow truck?

That depends on the situation and the trip. Discuss it when you call and you will hear straight away what is possible.

Do you also tow a car that no longer runs or rolls?

Yes. A car that no longer starts, no longer rolls or is damaged is winched onto the flatbed or trailer and transported safely.

Can I book a transport in advance?

Yes. Besides emergency help we also transport cars by appointment, for example to a garage, to your home, to the scrapyard or across the border. State the preferred date and time in your quote request.
